1.   Does a player have to tryout for the Spring MD Tryouts if he/she really wants to play House League Select Hockey?

•  We encourage all players to tryout at Spring tryouts to ensure players are playing at their highest skill level.

 

2.  When are tryouts?

•  St. Catharines CYO MD Hurricanes tryouts are in the Spring. Register for these tryouts on the website or at CYO Championship Weekend.
•  Tryout details are available in the Tryout page.

 

3.  Is MD hockey more expensive the house league hockey?

•  Yes, there are additional costs associated with MD hockey.

•  MD teams are on the ice more often than house league teams and have other team expenses. The MD Hurricanes charge a competitive surcharge to cover ice and other costs provided by the association.

•  Teams may wish to purchase additional training, such as the treadmill at Front Row, or go on tournaments. These costs would also be covered by the team.

•  Many MD teams fund-raise to cover some or all of these additional costs.

 

4.  What is the time commitment?

•  Generally there are 1.5 to 2 hours of practice time per week and 1 to 2 games.

•  There is also more travel, as all of the teams you will play will be outside of St. Catharines (like Hamilton, Woodstock, Brantford, Burlington, Cambridge, KW area).

 

5.  Are playoffs during March Break?

•  Yes. Playoffs for MD hockey are during March Break.

•  It is expected that you will NOT make holiday plans during March Break.

 

6.  What if we are away during tryouts?

•  MD Hurricanes provide ample notice of tryout times.

•  It is important to have your player at the tryouts to benchmark him/her with the other players to ensure he/she is placed appropriately.

•  We need to evaluate your player’s individual and team skills.

 

7.  I have just moved to St. Catharines geographical area. How do I register for hockey tryouts?

•  Please contact our Registrar ASAP to assist you with your transfer. 

 

8.  When will MD Hurricanes Coaches be announced?

•  Head Coaches for Hurricanes teams from Novice to Midget will be announced by April 1st.

 

9.  What Division is my child in?

•  The divisions are based on birth year.
